The social network of "microblog" Twitter is the winner of the 13th version of the Webby Awards, the Oscars of the Internet as the largest Web event in 2008. Last year, Twitter has grown 900 percent, following in the footsteps of other winners of the past, such as YouTube, MySpace and Flickr, states the communiqué, released this Tuesday.
"The essence of the democratic spirit of the web to be accessible to all, the phenomenon of micromensagens created a field of entertainment in which all of the celebrity candidates through demonstrators and consumers can share information and shape public opinion. The award will be received by the co-founder Biz Stone. The gala is scheduled for June 8 in New York.
This is the highest distinction of the Internet, according to the newspaper "New York Times" and is organized by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and a group of 650 jurors.
Among the winners are still Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, considered the best artist of the Web, Jimmy Fallon, and personality of the year, Sarah Silverman, the best actress, Lisa Kudrow, best presenter comical, and Seth MacFarlane as a movie personality and video.
